Static Cycle is a modern rock band based out of Anchorage, Alaska whose original and captivating sound has grabbed the attention of ears all across the United States. The band debuted their first album When We Meet Again at the CD release party on June 5th, 2008 through Resonus Records. A sound that’s been likened to that of Chevelle, Foo Fighters and 3 Doors Down, Static Cycle is taking the industry by storm due to their surprising and eclectic group of musicians.
Lead singer Jared Navarre met lead guitarist Josh Witham in the fall of 2005 and it wasn’t long before they discovered the creative synergy between their dynamic musical backgrounds. Jared’s voice was formed by the diverse sounds of Incubus, Foo Fighters, and Boys2Men, while Josh’s favorite acts included Metallica & Rage Against the Machine. After finding drummer Dennis Smith in 2007, Static Cycle was finally complete. They discovered a perfect balance between their different tastes and created a skillful, audience pleasing sound with cutting-edge riffs and creative lyrics.
In early 2008 the band spent two months in the studio with Producer/Engineer Mike Brown (Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Garbage) capturing their innovative and gripping style. Since their album’s debut they’ve found incredible success in interest and creating a huge following –in Alaska and across the nation. Their hit single, ‘Pressure’ is starting to sweep radio waves all across the U.S. and constantly being requested for looping playlists. Static Cycle is currently touring the nation. One of the many things that sets Static Cycle apart is the stage presence that the entire band immediately commands.
Jared Navarre - (Vox & Rhythm Guitar) Twenty five year-old Navarre has performed professional vocals and guitar for 15 years. Jared is the principal lyricist and melodic writer for the Static Cycle. His voice is known for its wide, dynamic range and creative addition to the sound of modern rock. With roots outside of the hard rock scene, Jared is able to bring the unexpected to an expectant audience. With his previous band Crail, he won the Rock Category at the 2004 annual Alaska Song of the Year and gained a name for himself and his voice in music at a very early age.
Josh Witham - (Lead Guitar) For more than half of his 28 years Witham has worked at mastering composition and performance guitar. It is Josh's intriguing chord progressions that give Static Cycle's hit singles their backbone. Previously with the cult phenomenon Grain, his musical work in Kansas and Alaska has granted him diversity in his performance and largely noticed effort in his maturity as a musician. His edgy guitar lines can stand on their own and his understanding of space within a line gives Static Cycle the perfect blend of simplicity and complexity that completes their urgent sound.
Dennis Smith - (Drum) Always behind an instrument for the entirety of his life, Smith is a versatile and accomplished rhythmist --bringing the heartbeat in drums to Static Cycle's addictive rock. In very high demand statewide, Dennis has played everything from heavy metal to blues licks behind many of Alaska’s most successful bands. Fusing rock and hip-hop styles underpins and propels the rest of his style and allows it to soar.
Travis Hulse - (Rhythm Guitarist & Back Up Vox) Native to Lincoln, Nebraska, Travis is SC's newest edition to their musical lineup. Travis met the band while they were progressing their Mid-West tour in Lincoln. The band has shown it's harder side since adopting Travis into the group --Hulse coming from a much heavier background than most of the members. Joining the band in the fall of 2008, Travis has found his true place in music with Static Cycle.
Johnny Rheaume - (Bass) Another Alaskan local, Johnny is the oldest member of Static Cycle heading up the bass guitar. But Rheaume's age is the last factor you would use to define his musicianship. Johnny is an incredibly talented bassist and a true asset to the Static Cycle team. His solid bass and creative riffs have changed Static Cycle's performance indefinitely since his induction in September of 2008.
